Summer Hobby Projects

Summer is here and we all tend to spread out and go our own ways. Local gaming is on break and your sitting on the couch board. What should you do? Personally when I am chillin out in front of the TV I bring out a hobby project and start going at it. I am usually not in a rush and often it is a project that I don't need. I hope you take this chance to post some of your more...non traditional hobby pics here and lets see what we all did this summer.

Here is my recent fun project. It is a little piece of scenery that GW sells. I have never seen it at the store I regularly go to, and I was never able to order it in Dubai....I present the Battlescape!

Tons of cool details and it makes for a great centerpiece to your battle field!

LOL love the dead guardsman!

So if you get a chance and want to make a great piece the check out the Battlescape! Please make sure to have your Rhino a smashed Crimson Fister Rhino too!

For quick scale the Rhino is actual size and the entire scenery piece is quite large.

Here is my first Finecast project.  I put my Chaos in the closet a long time ago as I am not a big fan with the current Codex but all the new 6th Edition rumors, and the rumor of a new Codex Chaos LEgion to go along with the current Chaos Codex has gotten me a bit excited!

I present the Nurgle Daemon Prince!

This model was pure joy to put together. Easy to clean and easy to glue...I love you Finecast!!!

Ipost my finished wprk along with painting guide for Nurgle Colors soon!

Summer Progress. I am loving this model. I have the base blended layer down with two applications of Devlun Mudd wash over Foundation Gretchin Green and Tallarn FLesh. I used Dneb Stone as highlights and Tin Bitz with Dwarven Bronze for wepons and trim.

I still have about 3 more layers to do, but I am not in a rush and this make take me all month to finish!

I would add a gloss varnish to that Daemon princes cyber eye, make it look a little less flat.

Kangor

Yeah I have a couple ideas for gloss on this bad boy....

OKAY!! I got something for my summer hobby project~ XD, Today (at around 7:30pm) I went to Park'n shop and buy the Space Marine Command Squad, and at that time I only had like 200aed.. why I spend the money on that? well, for one thing its 5 bad ass space marines with different things to do in battle and I still have enough money to buy 2 paints which is skull white and chaos black (which is really important)  I was planning on buying the space marine battalion squad, but I figured I can buy them next time. Now that I know where park'n shop is (which is really close by) I can go there whenever I have the money, and heck even play.

P.S I'll post some pictures tom, cause right now am lazy~ :D

Chaos black base coat > Goblin green > boltgun metal > dwarf bronze > dwarf flesh > Red gore > bleached bone > regal blue (plasma coils)

thraka green for the greens, gryphonne speia for the bleached bone, Baal red for the red gore, badab black for everything (after everything else dries) then gryphonne speia on the bolt gun metal after the badab is dry.

if i want the skulls meaty i use baal red then gryphoone speia then devlan mud or badab. i still like to play around with the washes to see the results.

dwarf flesh is washed with baal red then thraka green then badab.

Oh and i toned down the gloss varnish and used matte for a basecoat then gloss the skin and make gloss slime trails where needed (like gun shot wounds or cracked armor from the foreworld parts)

(Apothecary and Banner Carrier.)

I have already done the banner and some fix some of the details, I'll be posting a new pic later.

I need suggestions on what I should add on these guys, any suggestion at all would be a great help~ >_<

Simple suggestion, and one that I give to everyone is properly was your models. Invest the 15-20 AED in either badab black or devlun mud and apply wash to the nooks and crannies. It will make the depth on the model POP! I really like the brown instead of gold, but maybe a highlight of burnished gold would be good, especially the banner eagle.

And finally, get a .5 or less micro pen and trace the white in the banner. Nice crisp thin black line will give good dimension and also make it POP! Great job painting and good starting army!

When you said "wash and nooks" what area's are those? the only thing I'm scared right now when I apply badab black is when all the shiny parts like the gold lines on the shoulder pads turns black, and I have a .5 micro pen, still searching for it though (lol) and the gold I applied in them was not normal gold its already Burnished Gold, but I'll try and mix Burnished gold and mitril silver to make a more highlighted effect.
Thanks for the tip kangor~ ;) happy gaming

P.S I'm planning on going to park'n shop again, I'll be receiving 500 dhs within this week or next~ XD

When Kangor said wash the nooks and crannies, it means applying GW washes on the "cracks, mouldings, and other part of your model that wold get the most shadow". by washing (or inking) you'll get more depth on your minis. dont worry about washing over the gold and other shiny details, you can always retouch them up later on

So that means I'll apply badab black on every part then just repaint it again? o,o if so I guess its fine so long as they would look all the more awesome~ X3

Still have to apply the badab black thing and repaint some of the parts but it looks good now even though its not yet really done~ :D

I have been busy with work, and also busy with hobby fun. Here are a couple WIP for my summer of fun!

I about finished Canis. Just need to go over and add highlight and some finer details

I cant get away from the Nurgles Rot. I redid my entire Deathguard Army and now I am working on the vehicles (more to come later)

This is going to be a fun project. My buddy moved and gave me a Battle Wagon Chasis so I started doing some plasticard trying to make something fun and scary. This is a big WIP.

this is a big one. Took out the necrons and started repairing and repriming them. I want to be ready on the release to kick some fleshy arse!

My favorite. This is a simple Finecast Termie GK. I did a simple weapon swap and added a left over Storm Bolter. Here you can see my mock up. I will now go in an do armor and add another layer to all you see. I usually dont do it this way but I ran out of Adeptus Battlegrey and I was dying to paint the model. Again A+ on Finecast. So far I have been very lucky. The only issue with this model was a warp to the Force Staff (I cut it off anyhow) and the cables under outstreached arm are a bit warped under the arm pit...nothing big!

So I know you have all been doing some hobby work....lets see it! The summer is almost over and its about time to get your battle on!

Kangor
Kangor's picture

Well summer is coming to a close so its time for me to put the finishing touches on my hobby projects. I will show you my current project and the give my greatest hobby acomplishment...

I got tired of fighting in the city so i did these 3 little guys. I really like the GW new tree stands. Well worth the $20

The only army besides bugs that I do not have. I have had this army for 6 years never painted it...so thats my last chore of the summer.

Love the Purple. I used Liche as base with Warlock and Leviathan wash. Boltgun for the face and still working on the Bone Weapons. I think these are good contrasts that go well together.

Still needs some highlights

I really love the model!

So after the dust settle I think my greatest hobby feat this year was getting the Grey Knights fully rebuilt, magnetized, and painted table top+ I am now going through and detailing and doing all the heraldry. Here is my 2011 Hobby Feat!

Grey Knights!

With only mixing in 2 New boxes (1 Termi and 1 GKSS) I turned all the old models into relevant and deadly units

I am sticking with a mix of GKSS, Inerseptors, Terminators and one of both Paladins and Purifiers as the core of the Army.

Some people love it and some hate it. I am about 50/50 on Dread Knights. Everytime i play them they are relevant so its hard to drop

So I cannot find Crowe anywhere and I was looking at this cool Justicar I made a long time ago...and WOW its Crowe! See the Dark Angels are Revlevant!

Love the Model!

Inquisitor Han "Coteaz Proxy" Solo

And that was my Summer 2011!
