Necrons Rise

When I heard that the Necrons were getting a new Codex I ran out and bought a jug of Simple Green and started to strip my old models. Most of my collection were Warriors, Immortals, Flayed Ones, Destroyers, and Lords so I knew I was safe an that thee units would make a return. On release I bought two Ghost Arks, Necron Overlord, Cryptek, an a Special Character otherwise my collection was all older models.

I love this model. It was a great kit and if you have a couple really big magnets you can make the Doomsday Ark as well. Be patient the model takes about 2 hours to build.

Unit of 20 new warriors. I used my OP Warriors as two squads to go in the Arks (x10 & x9 with Lord) and keep this unit on foot to help draw fire. If the opponant target the Arks and leave these guys alone they will tear them apart with x20 Guass Flayers.

Here is the Overlord. IMO he is a great HQ Choice. I take OVerlord and Destoryerlord along with a Royal Cout x2 Lords and x2 Crypteks. The Crypteks stay with the Overlord, while the basic Lords split, 1 with x20 warrior and 1 with either x9 Ark Warriors or the x5 Immortals...yes all Lords have Res Orb :)

I really like the Destoryer Lord fluff and rules. I have taken the Original OP Lord staff to this model for a change of pace. IMO  Destroyers are marginal, but x6 upgraded Heavy Destroyers for 180 isnt that bad given the weapon they have.

I am not a big fan of most of the Elite Choices in the book and despite most peoples opinion I DO like the C'tan. Yes they are easy to poison out, but they are a very important unit to give you some counter assault as well as create a force multiplier and allow other units to survive or punish your oppponant for ignoring them. I try and take minimal costed powers for the C'tan and Usually bring two in a 1500 point list, or swap one for a Monolith.

Here is my unit of x9 Warriors with OP Lord.

Overall I really enjoy the Codex. It reminds me of the Dark Eldar book in that there are atleast three very viable list builds. All slots have some choice to them and the Characters are ALL very unique and carry a lot of fluff. I hope the rule rumor for 6th Ed are correct and you can choice 2 slots to give up in place of buying another slot (-2 Fast for +1 HQ). This would allow me to take 3 HQ along with 3 Royal Court for a really cool unique all character type army list :) I like the Scarabs, Wraiths, and Spiders and I am currently rebuilding the ones I have now.

For my color scheme I used black primer with Boltgun wet drybrush. I then Devlun Mudd washed the model and used Shining Gold for the trim and heads. I washed the gold with Griffon Sepia and then drybrushed with Burnished Gold and Mithril Silver. I used and Enchanted Blue with Asurman Blue Wash and Ice Blue Drybrush with another Asurman Blue wash. I will detail energy areas with Scorpion Green or Blazing Orange dependig onthe look. Most of these models pictured are still about only 50% to 75% complete and will require more details. I just wanted to get some discussion going for now :)

It's amazing how you can pump out these really well painted armies so effectively, great work. yes

just a couple of things, 180 points gets you 3x H.destroyers not 6. and Ctan shards have 'character' under unit type, doesn't that mean you can only field one per army?

Thanks Wraithlord! I paint them for table top and then go back and add the details (aside from Character models). This way I can field fully painted armies and I dont feel overwhelmed by having tons of unpainted model to finish.

Yeah caught that typo, but thats what I meant. To me 180 for x3 Heavy Destroyers is around the same price for a LAs/Las/Las Predator Tank so the price is about right...and you can assault with Prefered Enemy (everything) LOL although why you would ever assault with a unit of Destroyers/Heavy Destroyers is beyond me :)

Character means they are there own unit like Mephiston and cannot join another unit as any other INDEPENDANT Character can. It has no impact on FOC Slot's and they are not listed as 0-1 (unless I missed it). I played double C'tan in a GW event an had no issues?

Ahh I see. And ya I agree heavy destroyers aren't as bad as the internet says they are, cause of being able to get easy cover saves and being mobile.

painting question, how would you approach trying to get a tarnished copper type look on models? (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/192/518057146_f08974a836.jpg)

Using metallics start with Tin bitz, badab black wash, dwarves bronze thin coat, super light mithril drybrush just on raised areas then finally a thin thraka green wash or two to get desireded amount our tarnish.

for  tarnished copper i would paint using maybe a dwarf bronze mixed with either a gold or silver ( i havent tried) but for tarnish mix hawk turquoise and snot/dark angels green depending on shade you want,  thin and wash over model,  make sure it builds in the creveces
