Guardians of Ultra

They are the highest of rank in the Ultramarines Chapter, more so than the Honor Guards themselves. They are considered as the wisest of the soldiers, that even Marneus Calgar would seek council with. Some might say that their Wings symbolizes that of a blood angel, Infact they were blood angels Sanguinary Guards once but due to a genetically missplaced gene seed within their own chapter. The Ultramarines has now created its own Guardians that protects the most sacred of relics and is send wherever they are needed. Although they have the Blood Angels Geneseed, they can control the bloodlust within them. They do not retreat in battle unless needed to, and would rather fight to the last man than surrender. Few ever see the Guardians of Ultramar, for most of the time they would be hidden within the chapter house, only to show when they are called.

"Stand! My brothers! We are the Emperor's messengers, and we shall deliver death upon our enemies, for we know no fear!!!!"  ~~ Brother Marcus - Flag Bearer of the Guardians of Ultra"

(P.S)

Okay, that was a little fluff for these guys, now for the stats and crap stuff. Anyways, I already know the fact I can't use them in my Ultramarines (blood angels own codex etc) BUT what I can do is proxy them as Honor guards. So yeah, I can still use them basically, and here are a couple of pictures (still W.I.P). I'm having a hard time on how I can put up an Ultramarine Banner in the guy in the middle (picture) but yeah~ if anyone can sell a flag to me (the big one) I'd be more than happy to buy that (not the Blood Angels flag)

Brother marcus is in the middle... so yeah.. I really need a flag (or maybe I could just stick a small flag in his jet pack, what do you think guys?)

okay, clearly my camera is crap... anyways still missing a lot of colors like (black) for the guns and badab black for detals and devian mud (I hope thats correct) for the gold stuff and something that would make the weapons look like glowing.. yeah~ and I need a WHITE SAKURA PEN!

The one on the right is not yet done, (no color of the eyes yet) so yeah~ I'm still adding more detail into these guys, but since I'm missing a lot of paints, I have to wait before I can get them.

If you guys have any tips (specially the weapons effect etc) as always, I'd be happy to know~ :)

Cheers and happy wargaming~

give a wash of badab black on to the gold areas then highlight it whatever u used, to make it look worn and a bit dirty like he was just in combat but yet it will still shine,
also maybe add more gold to then sanguinary guard dude. well thats what i know cus i am not really a pro, oh and for the weapons apply devalin mud or gryphonne sepia to make rust effects, well if you want.

Wash th gold with a brown ink or devlan mud if you can, gives the gold a very rich and deep colour, i tend to stay away from badab black as much as possible only use it for metallics imo washing everything in badab is a very ineffective technique even for a begginer

lol that is actually true, cus recently i tried using devalin mud onto a few of my catachans uniform and it looks really good, though badab black comes in handy if u wanna make metal areas look worn or used especially heavy metal coloured areas, well what to i know i am still a rookie in painting :)

I know you wanna make up your own fluff but I'll be honest that what you wrote was completely against current fluff and ultramarines was probably the worst you could pick due to the sheer popularity and amount of fluff out there, so I'd give you 2 suggestions froma fluff perspective, make them a decendant chapter of the ultra marines(theres hundreds of them so nobody will moan at you forr it) or use them as the ultra marines vanguard veterans, coz regular space marine honour guard cant take jump packs.

*reads the whole fulff again*

okay you got a big point there, I forgot to add the part where in the jetpack and wings are only decorated stuff. Thats the reason why I pick the Honor Gaurds. (and proxying them as Honor Gaurds will count the jetpack and wings as nothing)

but its optional to proxy them also as Vangaurd veterans (If I want to) but I'll see what I can do with them.

I agree with @Swarmlord, and we all know how rare that is! Your fluff is...disjointed. Ultra Marines are the Pinnacle of perfection and they are the ideal Space MArine (Hence the Codex Astartes was founded by their Primarch). Also the Sanguine Guard are the pinnacle Blood Angel, so you have take two very specific fluff parts and tried to blend them in a way that is not feesable.

I would definately make your Chapter a off-shoot Chapter that follows the tenants of the Codex Astartes but has some diviation due to their past alliances.

A final note on Proxies. there is a very important rule in Warhammer Fantasy and 40K its called WYSIWYG or What You See Is What You Get. If a model has wings and you tell me they dont fly, i will play my game continuing to believe they fly regardless as I see wings! It is psycological but it will skew my decisions. If you tell me a an Exoudus PAttern Bolt gun is just a bolt gun I see Bolt Gun and its no big deal. Just a little FYI for you, and if would also recommend either dropping the back packs and magnetizing the packs and regular packs so you can swap them out in a proper fashion. It is one thing to proxy bitz/wargear/weapons and it is another to proxy entire models in codexes. Imagine I told you that squad of Ork is really Space Marine...yeah drastic I know!

Overall I love your creativity and i am getting a cool idea for a thread based off it....keep it up!

I am so noob at this lol, If only I can change the color scheme again and make a new chapter, But at the same time it feels such a waste to remove all the colors I put into them... hnnn.. I really don't know what to do with them I'm confuse @,@. In any case, I'll just use them base off on what I can do, if they can be played as anyone from the spacemarine codex then fine by me, so long as the other player accepts it.

Yes I also agree that the UltraMarines are the Pinnacle of Perfection and there's no flaw in their own chapter, but there are some chapters in which they have been "imperfect" for what I can see. An example of this is the Legion of the damned, many claimed of them as tainted by the warp, and this gave me the idea that even though some of the spacemarines were tainted that doesn't mean they are considered as Chaos Spacemarines.

In short I was thinking of maybe~ making a mysterious squad of spacemarine, in this case the Sanguine Guard cought my attention. Cause normaly when you look at them you would think, "ohh its blood angels" but later on you'll see Ultramarine insignia in the banner or such.

(P.S) Also, when I look at them (the painting scheme I made for them) they look like ancient statues long forgotten, probably relics that even the Ultramarines didn't know or maybe some few know, this creates a Mystery behind the Ultramarines Chapter.

Sorry if my reply was long but thats what I wanted to explain, and I guess I didn't explain it enough in the fluff.

And thanks Kangor, a new thread would be nice base of this~

I recommend looking/getting How To Paint Space MArines. It is a great resource and shows many examples of Ultra Marine successor Chapters. Some look just like them with some slight deviation, and others look nothing like them. Dont worry about calling the Ultra Marines it is just a name, but worry more about using your models/proxies correctly within your Codex.

Great Idea about the Sang Guard. Those are the perfect Guardians of Ultramar!
