Current Works

Hi,

I guess with the summer over people are in the swing again, does anyone have anything they are currently painting or working on?

since returning from vacation i been eager to paint again, so i started with a nob from the boyz kit.

i like it, i have 2 things to say thought:

1. the gun needs a black wash or paint it black and drybrush metal

2. i love the look of a well painted ork, but you need to be more effective with your time as you need another 29 like that to have one troop choice.

just my 2cents

1. will try the black wash tonight.

2. took 2 nights to get this far mostly to get back in the grove as well as a paint scheme for my army.  I also have a completed army to play with so i don't need to rush ;)

ps i need 90 of these for 1500 points O_o

pps i also was painting a nurgle daemon as a test subject while painting the nob.

question about bases, do you put the base first then the model you know the grass and stuff.?

Wraithlord

I adore the shade of red you got, very good use of washes.

I'm a slooooow painter, so I'm wondering what you guys do to make things more systematic to get more done?

I put on all the bits and pieces in the base first before I put the model in the base itself. I put the grass when the model is already on the base, that way I'd know which area's I need to cover up using grass.

Another tip, the rocks on the termies and most of them, I didn't pick them outside but rather cut bits and pieces of the left over sprews :D

Thank you~ :3

I am also a very slow painter, (it took me a day to finish the termie guy "1st pic")

But there is a fast method on getting all of your units painted with good quality.

Usually what I would do is assemble all the models (I don't put them on the bases yet), Prime all of them with whatever primer you use (I use Codex grey on these guys :D).

After priming all of them, coat them first with colors that would go on most parts of each model (like my models which I mainly use merchrite red)

Next I wash them all with badab black (heavy wash) normaly in heavy washes, it takes about 30 mins or more for a model to dry. At that point in time I can either chillax or assemble different models.

After they're done drying, I cover the area's in which the badab black is not much needed (since you mainly use that wash for showing up crisp details), in this case I use Red gore to cover it up.

After that I fill in the rest of the details with whatever the color scheme I plan for my army. (the bone like colors in the helmets, I use Bleached bone and Gryphonne Sepia wash)

Then finally I fill the base with whatever stuff you can fill it with. and once dry paint it add effects etc and stick the model using super glue

(I usually position the model first before I decide what things I should put on in the base, that way it wouldn't screw up the pose when I place the miniature itself ontop of the base)

It will take about a day or 2 to complete a 10 man squad of space marines (it also depends on how many hours you put your work into it)

Hope that helps >_<

Trust me its not that good when you look at it up close in personal, the camera is fooling you. Don't fall for it! >.<

You've not seen Sorscha crying

Would show you a pic but I'm away this week so can't take one now unfortunately  . I can tell you for a fact that I can't paint eyes or teeth , I usualy let the washes and dark flesh take care of them .

ohh.. well.. for the eyes and teeth I use a really really fine brush and just gently slide the brush onto the eyes and teeth part, I usually put black first for the eyes then cover the sides with white, leaving some parts of black in the center. I just watch youtube videos to learn them~ then apply ofcourse >_<

Karlan
Karlan's picture

Did try following the Youtube vids a few times before ,  but I think it comes down to me not being able to see such small details up close as I'm long sighted . I actually use magnification goggles while I'm painting , can't do much without them . Might give it another go with better brushes , have a set of 0 , 00 , 000 Windsor and Newton series 7 brushes that I might break in on that excercise smiley

iIbigdaddyIi
iIbigdaddyIi's picture

I use the citadel Fine brush that was given to me by my cousin as a gift (along with some other paints) but 0, 00 and 000 is pretty good when it comes to small details.
