Airbrush

anybody who uses an airbrush say waaaagh!

actually im kinda lazy to go on window shopping and compare prices on airbrushes but if any of you had tips on where/how to acquire a decent air brush please let me know....and btw im wondering if those portable tire compressors would work on an airbrush? haven't tried it but the idea is quite intriguing. where are those decent compressors in the emirates?

was thinking to just hand paint my tanks if i dont acquire them painting tools soon.....if this would happen...any proven tips on hand painting a tank? ^_^x

You need a compressor to make it worth while. The problem in the UAE is getting the propellant cans (which are impossible to get and expensive).

All airbrushes can be connected to a compressor but the fitting nozzles might be tricky to find.
Good Luck!

i do have an airbrush but i left it back home...tried looking for something to use and the only decent ones here are BADGER brand (of course there are some other brands but expensive for an unknown brand...last time i checked its around 400-700+ aed for a generic airbrush) and one of the problems bout these airbrushes, they dont come with a compressor. i have to buy it separately but where? that's why im asking the veterans if those portable tire compressors (the ones being sold at carrefour) would work on your regular airbrush?

one option though is spray paint my tanks (but this is only primer)....i tried experimenting before with a spray bottle (yeah i know its pathetic LOL) and it gave me an astounding uneven results ...that i dont wanna try again ^_^x

I got myself a revell airbrush but currently powering it with propellant cans which can become quite pricey. No, the tire compressors will not work. I have been asking around and everyone seems to point me to Dragon Mart as far as where I can buy a compressor on the cheap.

The reason the tire thing wong work is that whatever you get needs to have a pressure guage to regulate the pressure, or it will destroy the airbrush, or prevent it from working. the reason the cans work is they are already preassurized. If you find a way let me know cause I need propellant for my unused brand new GW airbrush ;(

I have to ask, do you use your airbrushes for base coating?

it's what i'm testing out now here in Doha as finding any decent spray paint here is next to impossible. I tried some paint recently but it was to glossy,  checked online to see people just use chaos black mixed with water to around a 50:50 ratio.

airbrush for base coating makes your life easier trust me ;) and yeah i do use chaos black/water at 50:50 sometimes undercoat black works wonders. bout the glossy thing, maybe it was gloss finish.... try using "matte" or matte finish, krylon fusion brand is one of the suggested spray paints. check out the other thread regarding paints, you can find some recommended spray paint n there too. hope that helped ^_^x

same problem here :(

Well I bought a compressor with regulator valve at dragon mart (Dubai) for 450 including a very good dual action airbrush (not branded though, but works wonders)
I also fitted the GW airbrush for a laugh and it works fine, just had to find the right adaptor.

You can use airbrushed for so many things it s almost unfair for people that don t have one.

Doesn't GW sell some proplellant for it's spraygun?

Yeah but its impossible to ship hear into Dubai and it was either back ordered or forgotten last time the GW boat sailed from England.

Awesome thanks again :)

I can get propelent for my airbrush but at 75qr (around same as UAE currency) i think a airpbursh compressor might be more worthwhile.

I checked all over Doha for a decent Spray paints and Ace hardware is nowhere to be found here till 2012 or later (they are still building the place that ace might be in)

If you're getting a compressor you don't need spray paint... just airbrush your undercoat.

That's what I've been doing and it saves me loads. The initial investment is steep but worth it if you paint a lot.

i have the propellant for the gw can if anyone wants it, i only used it briefly once and then the actual gun broke(snapped) so im not gonna buy another GW one coz i thoought they were pretty bad compared to what ive seen from other airbrushes.

50dhs for the can as its only one brief use.

also, is it possible to spray a metalic using an aairbrush???

swarmlord

on people carrying airplanes they pressurise the luggage cabin coz people brought deodorant and what not so they didnt want customers complaining they're bags exploding, so i brought it back in my suitcase.

You can spray anything with an airbrush, as long as you use WINDEX.

lolz, always thin your paints down with windex and you'll have no issues.

I wouldn't recommend basing a model metallic unless it's a necron :)

swarmlord
swarmlord's picture

i was gonna do it for vehicles to avoid brush strokes.

noxy
noxy's picture

yeah, it's absolutely perfect for vehicles... some people told me even "unfair" :D

Howse

windex? huh, second time i heard that, any reason why?

did some more research, and the airbrush some people swear by is a Iwata-Medea Eclipse HP-CS, i normally get my items threw amazon and shipments by Aramex.

http://www.amazon.com/Iwata-Medea-Eclipse-Action-Airbrush-Gravity/dp/B000BQKFAI/ref=sr_1_2?s=gateway&ie=UTF8&qid=1285690036&sr=8-2

they say any airbrush thats, dual action, Internal mix, gravity feed, and metal internals (all metal airbrush) is a reliable airbrush, and some brands to look out for are Iwata, Badger, and Paasche.

swarmlord

i think its how it evaporates and its consistancey and how it holds the pigment.

I'd look out for "Hseng" in Dragon Mart. It's everything you said plus it's chinamade so it's cheap. And by cheap, I don't mean that it breaks easily -- in fact, the quality on that thing is easily up to par with branded brushes.

burning_phoneix

Oh well, Chaos Black and Skull White spray are all I need anyway :P

This is what I got from DragonMart and it's doing its job perfectly.

Zenithal highlights here I come!

I want to do this:

well if i may vouch for an airbrush brand.... i'd go for BADGER, i have both 150 model dual action and model 175 cresendo. been using them since my college days and still works wonders - too bad i 4got to bring them with me :'( quite an investment really but would last a lifetime if used properly.

was trying actually to score some china made airbrush from dragon mart but due to lazyness going to dragon mart, i juz fidled with my tanks oldskool style hahaha looks crap actually but heck that would do for the time being LOL

Actually they're available for 350-450 AED at Dragon Mart in Dubai - this is including both the compressor and a decent airbrush.

yep i understand that although my post is already obsolete due to the fact that nothing beats Dragon Mart prices (like the prices of Maelstrom games ^_^x)  it is somewhat directed to those guys who dont have "real" access on DM.

calculating transportation expenses + travel exhaustion would cost me more than juz the amount of the airbrush from DM

but if u would be a good samaritan urself and sell us some of those 350 airbrushes + compressor then that would be great LOL

just got myb airbrush from dragon mart with compressor for 250, its great, i just think i need to practice with it a little more then ill move onto my tanks.
