Hi Azrael

When we made gaming boards for my shop in the UK we used torn up upholstery foam - gives nice rough texture with angular formations - looks really good for rock formations glued onto MDF bases coated in roughly textured plaster - sealed with watered down PVA, then Undercoated in a Ice Blue colour, Drybrushed with light Grey(spacewolves type grey), Highlight white - gives really effective finish and not too expensive - cost me about 20 pounds to kit out about 6 tables.

Hi there,

I made a game board years and years ago, it was huge 8' x 4'. I went to the local hardware/DIY shop with a tub of Goblin Green paint and they made up a tin of wall paint the same colour.

For me I'd do the same but find a nice ice blue colour, have a tin made up, paint the board then add your baking soda. Or cover the board with sand, paint with the ice blue, then dry brush with white. The advantage of getting a tin made up is you can then do a lot more tables.

I wouldn't recommend the crushed glass. It can be quite dangerous. If not sealed right it will come off on to peoples hands, they then rub their eyes or eat etc. I think it's best done in small quantities on miniature. But I must say it does make a great snow.

Hope that helps.
