The Horus Heresey series

Anyone reading the Horus Hersey series ? I've read the first 7 , so far they've been great . I specialy enjoyed the first 3 that detail how Horus fell to Chaos and the last one that came out ( The First Heretic ) which explains how Lorgar came to Worship Chaos and affect the other Primarchs .The black Library 40K series is also quiet entertaining , but Horus Hersey is much richer and gives insight in to what the Imperium of man was like when the Emperor was still walking the Earth . Kinokuniya at Dubai mall sells them quiet cheap , around 34 AED which is much cheaper than street price in most places in Europe & US .

There's a forum ( The Great Crusade ) that focuses on Warhammer 30K aspects , including painting / converitng / modelling and tournaments . If 30K were to pick up here in the UAE , I'd like to build a Lunar Wolves army as they're one of the most interesting legions in that setting.

Bell of Lost Souls used to have a 30k Pre Herasy mini dex for download. It gave all the rules and special characters for running a campaign set in this time. It is amazing! Do a google search for it, or ask Shihad I think I gave him a copy.

I read only Prospero Burns by Dan Abnett, and it is VERY well written. plot-wise as well as craft-wise.

I tried reading others by other writers and found them lacking in both. nothing to compare to Abnett.

@ Kangor : Thanks , will ask Shihab about it next time I see him at P'n'S .

@ Mishari : Not read Prospero burns yet but I heard that A Thousand Sons ( which is the 1st part of that Dualogy ) is better . Would also reommend you pickup Horus Rising  which is also written by Abnett and the very 1st in the series , once you read that you'll just have to pickup the next 3 :-)

I'm a huge fan of the series, i've read all of them so far (16 i think!) and yes i think kinokunya is probably the best place in Dubai to get them, 34 dhs is a pretty awesome price, although i used to get them at magrudy's once, i don't think they sell them anymore, btw if you are looking to borrow some, cos most of the time they are not all in stock, just ask.

True that they're not always in stock , thats why I always pass kinokuniya whenever I'm in dubai mall and buy whichever they happen to have and now I've all of them . cheers for offering though :-) Aurellian was supposed to come out on Monday and all of us trying to buy it ( it's limited to only 3000 copies ) crashed the BL site , now they're going to try selling it again on the 17th , hope I get a copy this time ....

@Karlan I actually read 1000sons! and I can confidently tell you, Prospero Burns is SO much better. 1000sons wasn't bad.. it was interesting.. but plot-wise? PB wins hands down. Abnett doesn't "parade" space marine abilities, he just tells a story. which is refreshing after you read so much codex fluff ;P

Yeah i've also read both and i can say that prospero burns is pretty much the best book in the series, i just found the way an outsider (the bad star) was slowly accepted by the spacewolves and became part of them was awesome, dan abnett is epic, he doesn't just focus on action and war and shows a very different part of space marines. the only thing i can criticise, is that it kinda promised the battle for prospero from the space wolf view....yeah, we got like 30 pages of the chronacler telling it and that's pretty much it. but that's just dan's way of things and it was still my fave book. a thousand sons was also a very good book, especially with the primarchs facing off (btw magnus would have won if their weren't so many pariah-women around) but was just a bit too fast paced and...shooty

bah! All Russ had to do was do an epic aetheric BELCH and Magnus' head would explode! oops hehe

plus..

As you well know.. there are no wolves on Fenris... stupid rumors..

and also.. the PB telling of the council of Nikaea is so much more insidious and revealing.. I read PB before I read 1000sons.. and even then PB made me understand roughly why Magnus was brought to the council without the main event being played on the pages.

For some weird reason, having the Magnus' trial in the backdrop, and the Emperor's "presence" merely hinted at..  was more powerful than literally spelling everything out, because it let your own imagination over-dramatize it in your head.
