[MMO] Star Wars: The Old Republic

Star Wars: The Old Republic is the next big MMO - which personally I'm dying to get my hands onto!

If you haven't looked at the short series introducing the universe of Star Wars Online just head out to youtube, it's simply captivating!

The official site: http://www.swtor.com
The youtube trailer (EPIC!!!) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBGvAJ6-SsY

Having played and loved both Knights of the Republic I and II. I only have one thing to say:

They ruined it. :(

Why? I wasn't a fan of Kotor but this looks like it's going to be nice.

The class system seems well done.

This game might be good but it being an MMORPG means I'm not going to see KotOR 3 for at least 10 years. And I hate MMORPGs and their subscription based systems.

It's like if Nintendo announced the next Mario game would be an MMO Platformer. That's not what I want from a Mario game! :(

But imagine the limitless possibilities that an MMO offers! Of course this is a multiplayer fan talking so I might be a bit biased.
I've got a huge collection of single-player games on PS3 but I never touch them.

I'm definitely going for a Sith caster, leader of a large PK guild :P

Except MMOs offer no possibilites, you rain teh same dungeons and loot the same monsters as everyone else. :(

Sure, they're trying something new with The Old Republic but I'm not paying 10$ a month for the privelege.

Kotor 1 and 2 were amazing and this mmo looks just as good

hm, imo MMO's offer group experience, which sometimes is more valuable than the game itself.

And "group experience" is also one of the reasons I play Warhammer :)

I'm looking forward to this one , hope it has the same appeal as SWG once did . I played Star War Galaxies for a couple of years and I must say that it had so much depth and complexity associated with it that I've not been able to play another MMO since , also the community was great and there was always plenty to do in both PvP & PvE . I only quit after they completly changed it ,  watered it down and made it another WoW clone , hope SWTOR doesn't go down the same path as SWG NGE .

KOTOR 1 and 2 were perhaps the best Star Wars games ever made, and although still considered good RPG games in their own right. The combat was simplistic, but it was the plot and dialgo that made the games great- particuarly 2.

Unfortunately, TOR  seems to be abandoning the moral amibuity that KOTOR created, and which 2, thorugh the character of Kreia is famed for. KOTOR, I think the only Star Wars game to feature blood, created a much mire mature and gritty feel to the world, and the lack of a defiante, clear good or evil was one of the main contributors to that. TOR seems to have gone back to a clear Jedi good, Sith bad, perspective, and I think that is a move backwards. The space combat, which seems like a bad version of Star Fox, also worries me, and I fear that the MMORPG format may convult and ruin and KOTOR style intricate plot that is put in, and I am unwilling to spend money unitl I am sure it will compete with WOW and Guild Wars etc long enough to get goind and make anu investment worthwhiel, and the failure of Star Wars: Galaxies makes me unncertain.

I recently got my computer fixed and am thinking seriously about picking SWTOR up, since GW2 is coming out in about 6 months. Any other decent "big", multiplayer games for PC (except life-wasting WoW) that i should be considering?
Cheers
