Necrons - 1500pt list and thoughts behind it

Now, I won't be building a Necron army any time soon (you can calm down ;P) or atleast not until i finish building & painting space elves to 1500. But I couldn't help but to write up an army list for this extremely unique codex.

Here are my rules: Has to use Anrakyr The Traveller

It has to use the availible models

It has to be a foot list (I've got enough skimmers)

The reason I've chosen the traveller is simply because of his insanely fun power of controlling an enemy's tank, now I still need a way to deliver him close to use his ability without any transports. I can do this by joining him to a lychguard squad with an accompanied Viel of darkness cryptek so I can teleport anytime needed, giving the whole squad warscythes will ensure I blow up any tank after controlling it and still retains anti-infantry combat prowess with the crypteks flamer.

Anrakyr-165, Harbinger of despair Cryptek with viel of darkness-60, 5x Lychguard-200

Pretty expensive start, but if used well it can cause army wide mayhem. The traveller gives a nice little bonus of buffing up an Immortal squad with counter attack and furious charge, making them really good mid-fielders. let's take advantage of that. While we're at it we'll establish a scoring base with more Immortals that can be bumbed down to warriors if needed.

10x Immortals-170, 3x5x Immortals-255 (tesla carbines on all of them)

Now to take some pressure off the mini deathstar unit we'll get a big squad of Scarabs running up straight to the foe to eat away at armour and tie up infantry. Being beasts that throw down 50 attacks they are probably the most destructive unit in the entire codex so yes please! We're at exactly 1000 points. Let's add some long range firepower and since we can't use tanks we're limited to Heavy Destroyers, yes they are way to expensive and really fragile but they still have uses, just keep them in cover and keep pressure with scarabs and lychguard.

10x Canoptek Scarabs-150, 2x3x Heavy Destroyers-360

Those small Immortal squads look pretty awkward just holding objectives and shooting whatever passes by, so lets buff it up with Crypteks with the str 8 weapons. We can now get a Solar Flare a.k.a the best wargear in the codex, the reason for this is that the night fighting allows you to get the alpha strike on your opponent going first or second as well as protecting your troops for a turn.

3x Harbinger of destruction Crypteks, 1x Solar Flare-125

So we end up with:

Anrakyr The Traveller - 165

Royal court: 4x Crypteks, 1xDespair w/ VoD, 3xDestruction w/ SF - 180

5x Lyguard, warscythes - 200

10x Immortals, Tesla, Pyrrhian Eternals - 170

5x Immortals, Tesla - 85

5x Immortals, Tesla - 85

5x Immortals, Tesla - 85

10x Canoptek Scarabs - 150

3x Heavy destroyers - 180

3x Heavy destroyers - 180

Total: 1485

Thoughts? Questions?

the only elites that seem worth taking are c'tan shards IMO (Except maybe flayed ones with imotek). I'd say Anrakyr should be in a command barge, zoom up and use his warscythe to smash open some tanks after making one shoot at something.

the heavy destroyers are abit dear, 60 points for essentially a lascannon seems abit steep, I'd say you  need some combat in this,  if just to counter an assault, take some wraiths with the whip coil things.

Apart from that I like your list, i know there is some HQ that gives someone thee rule of relentless which i would give to a 10 man immortal squad with gauss weapons. When the models come out,  i may make an army with tomb blades, some of those new transports that arnt thr ghost ark. THE DEATH RAY! ect.

good luck

C'tan shards? how so, Ya they have some neat abilities but is waaay to easily killed from poison, missiles, auto cannons etc... for it to be worth more than a land raider.

I agree with the command barge, I would take it as well if it wasn't a foot list but VoD provides for a decent substitute. I don't like using the Destroyers as well, but if it comes to play testing Ill see if the firepower is necessary and if not I won't hesitate on replacing them with wraiths.

Ya any generic Overlord can be upgraded with Phaeron (makes unit he's with relentless) but tesla carbines allow you to stay back and still have the chance of getting 10+ shots, both have pros and cons, comes down to preferance really.

Deathmarks are also great units, they have this ability called "Hunters of Hyperspace" which allows you to choose a none-vehicle unit to be their prey. Any death marks hitting that chosen prey is wound on a 2+. Great for killing units that holds objectives or annoying ones like devastators or etc etc.

Also if you want, you can try upgrading the lychguards with Dispersion shields, which gives them a 4+ invul and deflects shooty weapons within 6 inches which I guess is okay in some circumstances...

But all in all the choice is up to you ;)

There's one slight problem. It says in the codex that you can only take every Cryptek ability once per royal court. Basically you will only get one SF. I'm sorry to be the poison apple, but that's as is.

There is also another good close-quater option; Triarch Praetorians (I hope I spelt that right). With rods of Covenant they can easily take out 2+ save trash at range or in close combat. Either that or give them particle casters (Range Up) and voidblades for a nasty combo of ES and Rending. Bye bye tanks. They are Elites and are also jump infantry.

One other note on the crypteks. If there are any annoying special characters (Mephiston, Abbadon, etc), give your overlord a ES weapon and then get a cryptek harbringer of eternity. Hit the guy in close combat with your overlord and then when he fails his armour, whale on him with your aeonstave. It will reduce most of his characteristics to 1. I actually did this to Mephiston and then nailed him with a warrior (Imagine that...).

Hope my advice proves useful...
