40k News

The best 40k player was found for this Throne of Skulls edition back in the UK - and it's a Chaos Space Marines player! 100+ people met up for the event over last weekend.

And here is the top10 players:
1:Zinga Valerio: Chaos, i think 2 lash 6 oblit raider army.
2: Fabian Quinn, 2 lash 9 oblit chaos army.
3: Alex Harrison with Space wolves, With 3 rune priests, 2 Squads of long fangs, 4 units of tooled up greyhunters.
4:Julio Torrado Rodriguez: Marines
5: Manuel Andres Fernandez: NECRONS!!!! He had a lord on destroyer with 6 wraiths, monolith, 5 destroyers, 7 immortals, some warriors. Crazy
6:Leonidas Laskaridis: Chaos, Khorne daemon prince, 2 raiders, 2 rhinos, 3 units of zerkers + Khorne terminators
7:Rob Madeley: Chaos Daemons
8:Courtney Rhodes: Orks
9aniele de Gemini: Orks
10: Lee Brown : Eldar

Yep, 3 CSM players - and 2 lists featuring boring 2 lash princes with 6+ obliterators. Those units are good for sure, but since people were complaining a lot about the loss of power of the current codex it's quite cool to see someone winning with it. Codex creep or not, nothing can stop a good player from winning.

As you can see most races were represented - I was quite surprised to see the necron player in 5th place - it's crazy. Eldars and Space Marines were at the top last year - it's quite a change.

I'm also on the lookout for hint/info about what the best army is but to tell you the truth there's no universal answer and as always it comes down to how good you know your own army strengths and your enemy's weaknesses. The player does everything, as year after year different races take the top spot.
So know your army, know your opponent's and above all know the missions.

So if I have one thing to tell all new players out there: whatever army you choose, you can win!

would you say salamanders is a good marine army? i mean they can be eqquiped to either burn hordde or melt mech and being a very mech army themselves they seem like a great idea, thinking of starting them.

If you think blood angels are broken then collect THEM!

not only that, but their models are amazingly cool, they are a good army for "burn hordde or melt mech", an assault squad with melta gun and a razorback with a twinlinked heavy flamer costs130points, imagine having 10 of those in a 1500 point game!, i would start blood angels, but i have my eyes set on deamons right now (:.

Salamanders only have 1 named character, and he's not that good either (although the model for Vulkan He'stan is kickass)

In my opinion go for Blood angels, but if you really hate them that much, then salamanders are always an amazing chapter i was once about to collect, i'd say blood angels and salamanders are by far the coolest chapters

WHAT ABOUT ULTRAMARINES?

But seriously, Flesh Tearers and Grey Knights are much cooler (look at the Flesh Teare fluff, it's awesome, and..... well I don't think I have to defend the Grey Knights)

OKOKOK HOLD ON...

First off play what apeals to you, not your friends. I have both Salamanders and Blood Angles and they are completly different armies. Play what apeals to your style or like he said what apeals to your modeling preference. Salamanders aside from IC are plain vannilla marines...er more like pastachio marines, where as BAs are all intricate and filled with lots of character and detail as they have there own Codex, versus Salamanders only having a Chapter Master...so enjoy!

NOW to respond to this insane comment made above "Salamanders only have one named character and he is not that good" ahem do you realize what that named character does? let me spell it out for you real fast.

  • All Melta, Multi Melta, Flamers, and Heavy Flamers are twin linked
  • All Thunder Hammers are treated as Master Crafted

No I dont know what world you live on but the world i live on says I have just given the 5  most powerful weapons in the game the ability to reroll misses, and wounds...for free? In the 5th ED world melta and flamer rule...melta cracks all MECH at Assault speed and Flamer torch HORDE...Thunder Hammers not only strike as stregnth 8, but also stun model if it recieved a wound but didnt die...

now remember this is just the ability the Chapter Master gives, now lets talk about him for a second..

2+/3+ saves...WS 6, 3W Spear of Vulkan that is a mastercrafted Power Weapon at +2S that is also a heavy flamer...each round...ummm....ah yeah oh and all for 190 points...a good generic captin lightly kitted out runs 130....So would you really call that "...not that good" actually I would call that a great IC!
OK, yes I am biased Salamanders were my first army for 40K so many years ago. I suffered through all there lame rules like -1 to Int and lack of all fast attack...I rejoiced at the 4th ED version 2 assault weapons per tactical squad, and now I revel in the Chapter Master that does it all!

so is that a yes??? and i hate the blood angels, i dont like all the red because i already paint my nids that colour, i dont like their "oh,pity me i have mental issues and my primarch gives me strange dreams" or their "look at me im a pretty boy with fluffy wings" and their "my primarch saved the emperor so therefore my codex needs to be able to have 11 dreadnoughts, a librarian in a dreadnought that can fly just because, are own super flamer predator (which i personally think the salamanders should have instead being firey n all), and our own plane that is really fast and can drop out are guys to assault you straight way as well as our special dreadnought tht has lightning claws, coz we re better than youuuuu!"  it just sounds like a more broken version of the space wolves and dont you say its not broken, the sanginary guard thing may have limits and bla bla bla but the ability to have the storm raven(which is less points then a land raider) blood talons(dreadnought lightning claws that are o incredibly over powered that many players may commit suicide) and baal predators that can move 18 inches is just way to unfair, im not aying every codex has to be equally balanced but jesus christ know when to draw a line in the sand!!!

ok sounds like you answered your own question.

If it was me going to start a new space marine chapter I would make a 13th Company Space Wolf...or a Blood Raven Chapter...Blood Ravens are the presumed successors to the Thousand Sons and I would build the army using Pre-Herasy Colors...or better yet...use the Blood Angles Codex for the rules and build a Pre-Heresy World Eaters Chapter (Khorn Beserkers) they are almost identical in what they do...fly and assault with furiouse charge and the Pre Heresy color scheme is amazing white and blue check out here for more on pre-heresy http://www.box.net/shared/jr5h5sbait

as for the Storm Raven...no even a land raider...Armor 12...say no more!

For your info they are positioning for the next SM Codex, and you will see alot of this in the next SM Codex so dont worry, just have fun!

I'm amazed at the super-fluffly Khorne CSM army posting 6th place ... it's so cool to see. Not only did the guy forgo taking what is currently considered the most powerful units of the CSM codex (lash prince, obliterators) but he even kept his all army under one banner: Khorne.

@swarmlord: stop whining, blood angels are not broken - they just have a lot of options and plenty of ways to build their army. I'm happy to see GW take this direction as it sets the pace for future codex releases.
